SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability has always been at the heart of our studio. At VERDI, we maintain a conscious approach to design and responsible production through our handcrafted processes. In recent years, we have also actively delved into projects and practices that enhance our social and environmental responsibility.

social sustainability

At VERDI, sustainability is woven into every thread—not just in materials, but in the people who bring our creations to life. We directly employ 44 artisans in Bogotá and collaborate with 50 families in Curití, Santander, ensuring that Colombia’s rich weaving traditions continue to thrive. By providing stable employment, fostering the growth of master artisans, and strengthening local economies through sustainable partnerships, we honor the hands that craft each piece. True luxury is not just in the artistry, but in the impact it leaves on the communities that create it.

HANDCRAFTED BY ARTISANS

All of our pieces are carefully handcrafted at the VERDI atelier, where we directly employ over 50 master artisans whose expertise is the result of generations of practice. Handcrafting each piece ensures minimal environmental impact, using fewer resources compared to mass production methods.

NATURAL MATERIALS

Most of our pieces are woven with natural fibers such as plantain fiber, organic-worm silk, baby alpaca, fique, yaré, and other finely sourced local materials. These sustainable, biodegradable fibers not only reduce our environmental footprint but also support responsible farming and harvesting practices.

CURITÍ ARTISAN AND FARMER FAMILIES

We support over 19 families of farmers and artisans in Curití, Santander, a small town in Colombia, where fique, one of our main fibers, is grown and crafted. This direct collaboration not only preserves ancestral techniques but also fosters a circular economy rooted in sustainability and community well-being.

NO DEFORESTATION

When harvesting fique fiber, only the external leaves of the plant are extracted, allowing the plant to continue growing without causing harm to the environment. This sustainable method supports ongoing crop growth and preserves natural ecosystems without contributing to deforestation.

CIRCULARITY

We embrace circularity by repurposing fibers and textile waste to craft new pieces, create samples, and even decorate shelves at VERDI homes and headquarters. Additionally, we have donated our copper residues to local artists for sculpture assembly that promotes a closed-loop system.
