THE TATAMI MIX

For the first time, VERDI introduces a collection where different weaves can be combined in a single rug. TATAMI offers the opportunity to create unique rugs not only by combining various designs but also by integrating different materials. Our Tatami rugs can be crafted by intertwining Alpaca, Fique Fiber, Horse Hair, Copper, or Stainless Steel, resulting in a truly unique design.

FAMILY LEGACY

THE RUG'S HISTORY

The first rug ever produced by Carlos Vera Dieppa, the father of VERDI's founders, Tomas and Cristina, was inspired by the traditional TATAMI Japanese rug. He sought to create a piece using Colombian natural fibers that would reflect Colombia's unique cultural identity and legacy. In his journey to craft a local interpretation of the timeless TATAMI rug, he connected with a local coffee-sack weaver, who introduced him to weaving with Fique Fiber, a technique that was used often in creating coffee sacks. This encounter marked the beginning of his textile explorations, eventually culminating in the creation of his very first TATAMI rug woven with Fique Fiber.

HANDWOVEN BY MASTERS

The VERDI Atelier, Bogota;

Master weavers, whose expertise is the result of generations of practice, patience and consistency, carefully hand-weave our rugs. Once finished, the rug is taken to the backing process, where we manually add an anti-slip backing to ensure resistance, durability and quality.
