Crocheting Metal: Softness in Strength

In our Bogotá atelier, each VERDI mochila begins not with fabric, but with a strand of metal — fine copper or stainless steel threads, drawn, twisted, and softened until they can be shaped by hand.
Through the ancient rhythm of crochet, these threads are transformed. Loop by loop, the metal yields, becoming fluid and flexible under the artisan’s touch. What begins as something industrial and unyielding turns supple — a textile that holds both memory and structure.

This is how the VERDI mochila is born: from the dialogue between hand and material, tension and release. The technique allows us to shape form directly from fiber, sculpting the silhouette as we weave — no mold, no frame, only the measured patience of craft.
Each piece embodies contrast — light and shadow, weight and movement, resilience and grace. The metal catches light like fabric in motion, revealing the quiet strength within its softness.

To crochet metal is to challenge its nature — to reveal its capacity for transformation. It is an act of both resistance and surrender, where tradition meets innovation, and the hand leaves its unmistakable trace on every thread.
