AMANGIRI’S SUSTAINABLE “THE TREE OF LIFE”INSTALLATION BY VERDI

"Handcrafted from sustainable fibers, as well as straw and copper, Colombian textile design studio Verdi’s “The Tree of Life” sculpture—currently residing in the lounge of Canyon Point, Utah’s all-suite luxury resort Amangiri—isn’t like other seasonal installations. Verdi co-founder and creative director Tomás Vera first got the idea in 2013, from the Tree of Life concept he observed in Mexico and found across numerous global mythologies. Vera brought his vision for the flowing tree to life in 2019, and it now makes its North American debut at Amangiri, where it faces the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Read more about the origin of the installation, which will be on view until mid-January, at Verdi’s site".

GALERIE

Colombian textile studio VERDI makes its Miami debut with La Macorina, a limited-release design by the brand’s co-founder Tomas Vera. Painstakingly fashioned with over 4,000 hand-tied knots of Cumare fiber, avian feathers, nylon, and leather shell, La Macorina is a pendulum sculpture that surprisingly transforms into a hammock, mirroring a brilliant Colombian peacock preening its tail in courtship. With its siliconized wire system of steel and tension springs, the piece is as much a feat of engineering as regal artistry.

Verdi’s sustainableTree of Lifesculpture goes on display at Amangiri in Utah.

This holiday season, guests at Utah’s all-suite resort Amangiri will enjoy a different type of Christmas tree courtesy of Verdi. Handcrafted in sustainable fibers, copper, and straw, the Colombian textile studio’s Tree of Life sculpture will remain at the resort until mid-January. The tree anchors the hotel’s lounge area, facing uninterrupted views to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. “Verdi’s Tree of Life strives to celebrate thoughtful design, exceptional craft, and sustainability, things that resonate deeply with our brand and global context,” says Verdi founder Thomas Vera. Tree of Life was first unveiled at Verdi’s Bogota headquarters in 2019 and quickly became a symbol of the brand’s artistic sensibilities.

Here’s Why You Should Be Paying Close Attention to Colombia’s Design Scene

"VERDI was founded with the intention to recover a legacy: after the death of their father Carlos Vera Dieppa, a leading textile designer who developed a technique to interweave natural and copper threads, brother and sister Tomás and Cristina Vera tracked down their father’s looms and the weavers who originally worked with him. VERDI’s rugs, which bring together materials like alpaca wool, copper, stainless steel, and fique fiber (made from a native Andean plant), shimmer and shift with changing light and perspective".

The Fiber Tree at the Center of VERDI's Bogotá Showroom is Nothing Short of MagicThe handcrafted combination of sculpture and fiber art is a bold departure from typical retail decor.

"Naturally, then, the company’s new Bogotá showroom is a full break from what you might see in other retail spaces from other rug or textile companies. It’s a richly colored, carefully lit space with the walls bearing many organic displays of the brand’s facility with fibers. But it’s at the center of the showroom that things truly take off. Hanging over visitors heads is a fantastic, almost Seussian tree—a supernatural piece of fauna composed of copper, fiber, straw, and other materials. It’s simply stunning".
